“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”. So says the old rhyme with which most brides are familiar. Many pay homage to this bridal tradition and will wear, for instance, an old, borrowed and blue garter hidden under her beautiful new bridal gown. Here’s an idea –how about wearing blue wedding shoes as a visible acknowledgement of this tradition? Or how about going the whole way and combine the shoes with a blue gown? How stunned would all your guests be if you glided up the aisle totally in blue?

The year 2011 is shaping up to be a year of greater change in wedding fashion. Brides are becoming more innovative in the way they interpret this most important of days. Not least of this is a new attitude to colour where colour is being applied to accessories such as shoes and even the wedding gown itself is being worn in colour by the bride who wants to demonstrate herself individuality and boldness. Blue for the gown matched with blue wedding shoes certainly makes a statement. The colour symbolises confidence, faith, trust, loyalty, wisdom and truth and is supposed to demonstrate depth and stability in those who choose to associate themselves with it. A bride consciously wishing to identify herself with these characteristics on her wedding day she could do worse than to choose to wear blue wedding shoes. If she really wants to make a statement of her intentions to be all of these things she could extend the colour blue from her shoes to her whole entourage. How exciting!

Bridesmaids are usually sisters, sister-in-law or close friends of the bride. A bride wishing to show her commitment to “blue” may be able to persuade her supporters to also wear blue bridesmaids shoes at her wedding. For more practical reasons, shoes which can be worn after the wedding day, are useful. Blue dress shoes can form a part of any wardrobe and the bride may be able to influence the bridesmaids with this suggestion.

The words blue wedding shoes can be broadly interpreted. Blue can mean anything from the palest of pale blue, through aqua, teal, azure, cobalt, midnight blue, navy, sky blue, indigo. Visualise any of these colours on the bridal shoes or even the whole outfit worn by a bride as she walks up the aisle and how exciting that would be. Then perhaps, even combine these delightful and stimulating colours with equally exciting styles and we have a very bold approach.
